LOS ANGELES — The movie that won the Oscar for best original screenplay for the 2016 Oscars, “The Death Of My Uncle,” has opened to a limited theatrical run at theaters across the country and is opening in the U.K. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, with a full run in Australia on Friday, Aug, 29.
The film, directed by David Gordon Green, tells the story of a young man whose mother died in a freak accident and the ensuing search for answers.
Green’s film has been nominated for seven Oscars, including best screenplay for his last film, “Gone Girl,” which he also directed.
The film is also coming to theaters in the Netherlands and Austria and has already earned $70 million at the box office.
The film has grossed $6.3 million at specialty box office and $16.5 million worldwide.
The movie, based on the novel by Robert Bloch, is based on a true story by Green about a father and son who were raised in rural Georgia.
The couple, who were also a football star, had a son named Nick and a daughter named Elizabeth.
